What students and parents say about Putney

Amazing.  The best kind of school in the world.  You get to be creative all day.

The community aspect of Putney sets it apart from other summer art intensive programs for teenagers.  The incredible caring attitude of all staff and willingness to work with individual situations makes you very special.  You clearly understand what is unique about teenagers. – Parent, 2008

I liked that the classes are small so the teachers can offer one-on-one help.  In both my classes I was able to accomplish things that I would ever have been able to do without the guidance of my great teachers.

It’s an experience like no other.  You meet new people and make friends you never thought you would encounter.  You meet your people.  You can be successful in most everything you try.

The staff seemed to truly know and appreciate my daughter as an individual.  She was able to stretch herself socially and creatively in a new and strong way. – Parent, 2008

It was great to spend time with people who share my passion.  It was so easy to connect with everyone, and I felt supported.  I know I grew as an artist.  In fact, I think this experience made me an artist.

Everything about the Putney experience was positive – from the first winter contact with staff to the final farewell.  This is truly a unique program where building community and nurturing students are put at the core.  Thank you! – Parent, 2008

Putney is an awesome place because everyone here is so passionate about the art they do, and everyone is constantly learning from each other.

I stretched my limits every day.

What I found most rewarding?  Washing eggs in the barn and weeding asparagus.  Close seconds would be mastering the 32-note run in the Schubert Quintet and seeing the play I wrote performed.

I believe the experience will stay with my son forever. He has said only positive things about his time at Putney – “awesome” and “epic” are two of the adjectives he uses. – Parent, 2008

Friendly. Accepting. Open. Caring.

It’s easy-going and relaxed but at the same time very rigorous and demanding.  This program is the perfect balance for fun and challenge.

I loved how my workshops were very challenging but yet such a positive learning experience.  I also liked how we had a lot of freedom with our projects.  I really appreciated the responsibility.

My friend and I sat by the water and talked.  He said it perfectly:  “If there’s one thing I’ve learned here, it’s that no matter how stupid something you do is, no matter how little self-confidence you really have, just put your whole heart into it – and they clap anyway.”  Then I splashed water at him.  But he was right.  I want to live at Putney.  They always clap.

If you are looking for find your soul in your art, there is no more perfect place to be.
