Joan Hinton '39 Dies
Joan Hinton, class of 1939 and daughter of Putney School founder Carmelita Hinton, died in Bejing on Tuesday, June 8, at the age of 88. Her life as a physicist who worked on the Manhattan Project, as well as a diary farmer in China in her later years, is well covered in several online obituaries, including those in the New York Times and the Washington Post. An obituary will be run in the fall issue of the Putney Post. She was also featured in the New York Times's 2010 year-end feature, "The Lives They Lived," which looked back on notable people who had died in 2010.
